HUNGER-POVERTY LIMITS 2024

Türk-İş, a federation of Turkish Worker Unions, in Ankara is calculating since 1987 the Limits of Hunger and Poverty on the base of ILO (International Labour Organization) directives. A family is defined as two aldults (male and female) and two childs (one child age is between 15-19 and the second child age is between 4-6). 

  Monthly expenditure for food

  A male adult needs a 4534,62 TRY

  A female adult needs 3641,11 TRY

  A chd (15-19 age) needs 4479,62 TRY     A chd (4-6 age) needs 2398,54 TRY

 HUNGER LIMIT:

 The monthly food expenditure (hunger limit) that a family of four person
living in Ankara must make in order to have a healthy, balanced and adequate
diet is 15,048.89 TL.

 

POVERTY LIMIT:

The total amount of food expenditure and other compulsory monthly expenses
for clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education,
health and similar needs is 49,019.19 TL (poverty limit),

 

The Minimum wage in Turkey for 2024 is 17002,00 TRY. If we we think that the adults are working, male and female is earning the minimum wage, then the income will be 34004,00 TRY. But mostly in Turkey the private sector gives  more than the wage but off the record. So more than the Hunger Limit but less or around the Poverty Limit.  About 50% of the employment in Turkey is earning more than 10% of the minimum wage. But on the other side about 56% of the people owns a house/flat or living out of rent environment. 

The retired persons are getting minimum 10.000,00 TRY monthly.

 

COST OF LIVING:

The 'cost of living' of a single employee also increased to 19,630.40 TL
 per month.
